Enzyme Therapy with the Loomis Enzyme System

Enzyme therapy helps with digestion problems which can result from eating our modern diet with many processed and preserved foods. The problem is that processed foods lack the digestive enzymes inherent in raw foods due to preservation. The act of preserving food (heating above 120 degrees F) for longer shelf life, while necessary for our modern way of life, destroys these enzymes.

What do these enzymes do?

Provided that we chew our food well enough, the digestive enzymes in raw food begin to break down what we have eaten into smaller units for absorption in the intestines before our digestive process in the stomach even begins to work. It takes about an hour for our stomach lining to secrete enough hydrochloric acid to get the acidity level low enough for the protein digesting enzymes (proteases) secreted by the stomach to work. During this time the enzymes in raw foods, activated by chewing, would normally assist in digesting what we have eaten.

When the enzymes are taken out of the picture by preserving for shelf life purposes, this "pre-digestion" does not occur and the stomach, pancreas and small intestine are required to do the whole job. Supplementing the diet with plant digestive enzymes, which work in a wider acidity range than our stomach, helps to "pre-digest" food.
